Transatlantischer Jugendaustausch “Bronx Berlin Connection”

Vom 3. bis 11. Juni findet auch in diesem Jahr wieder die “Bronx Berlin Connection” in der Hauptstadt statt. Seit 2008 exisitiert dieses transatlantische Jugendnetzwerk, bei dem immer wieder neu zusammengesetzte, multikulturelle, gemischtgeschlechtliche Gruppen junger Menschen in die jeweils andere Stadt eingeladen werden, um zusammen mit den dort lebenden Jugendlichen neue Lebenswelten zu entdecken.

Der gemeinsame Aufhänger ist die Hip Hop Kultur, durch die all die Dinge thematisiert werden, die im Leben der involvierten Teenager meist eine große Rolle spielen: soziale Ungerechtigkeit, Armut, Frauenfeindlichkeit, Homophobie und Antisemitismus - ganz gleich ob in Harlem, der South Bronx, in X-Berg oder Wedding.

Nachdem beim letzten Mal zusätzlich noch Jugendliche aus Paris bei der „Bronx Berlin Connection“ zu Gast waren, involvieren wir dieses Mal junge Menschen aus Hengelo in den Niederlanden im Programm. So wartet auf die Jugendlichen aus drei verschiedenen Städten ein großes kulturelles und subkulturelles Programm inklusive Zeit im Tonstudio und natürlich jede Menge Auftritte.

Das STREET COLLEGE von Gangway e.V. präsentiert die „Bronx Berlin Connection” gefördert vom Paritätischen Wohlfahrtsverband und durch die Kreuzberger Kinder Stiftung

Once again it is time. From June 3 - June 11 of this year the BronxBerlinConnection is happening. This time in Berlin. This Youth Network has been launched in 2008 and has grown steadily ever since. Since 2008 we were able to invite always new groups of multi-cultural, mixed gender groups of young people to the opposite city in order to discover new living conditions and experience "another world".

The common denominator is Hip Hop culture which allows us to engage project involved young people on subjects that are significant in their "every day lives". Social injustice, poverty, misogyny, homophobia, anti semitism and much more - whether in Harlem, the South Bronx, X-Berg or Wedding.

While we were able to involve young people out of Paris, France durning our last "NYC in Berlin" outing (2012) we are glad to be able to also invite youth from Hengelo, Netherlands to Berlin this time around. Thus, a rich cultural and sub cultural program awaits young people from 3 different cities here in Berlin, incl. time in our recording studio and a whole lot of shows of course.

The tour is over :(

Man mag es kaum glauben aber es ist nun bereits über eine Woche her, dass wir in Barcelona angekommen sind. Seitdem wir hier sind waren wir in insgesamt 5 Schulen um Konzerte und Workshops zu geben, sind auf Freestyle Sessions aufgetreten, haben zusammen mit Jugendlichen vom Jugendhaus Joves Teb ein Konzert für die Nachbarschaft in Ravala gegeben, wir haben einen kompletten Dokumentarfilm über die Zeit hier gedreht der in voller Länge ab ca. August erscheint (Ausschnitte/Trailer schon vorher), zusätzlich haben wir zwei Musik Videos gedreht und nebenbei haben wir es sogar geschafft ein bisschen von Barcelona zu sehen.

Als komplette Dokumentation dessen was hier alles passiert ist wird der Film fungieren der im Sommer veröffentlicht wird.

Wir bedanken uns bei dem Deutschen Konsulat, insb. Herrn Thietmar Bachmann, für das Vertrauen und "das Holen", dem Goethe Institut in Barcelona die ein tolles Schulprogramm auf die Beine gestellt haben und sich einfach super um uns kümmerten, bei Joves Teb und all den tollen Jugendlichen die dort ihr zweites Zuhause haben (welches ihnen aufgrund Staatlicher Kürzungen hoffentlich nie genommen wird) und danke auch an all die Schüler, Jugendlichen und Menschen die wir in unserer Zeit in Barcelona kennen gelernt haben. Ihr habt alle super mit gemacht und/oder uns toll begrüßt in eurer schönen Stadt......

It is hard to believe that it´s been over a week since we have arrived in Barcelona. Since our arrival we have been to 5 schools in order to rock shows and workshops, performed @ freestyle sessions, together with youths from the youth project Joves Teb we rocked a show for the community in Ravala, we shot and entire documentary about our time here which will be available in its entirety in August of this year (trailer and excerpts earlier), in addition we shot two music videos and along the way we were even able to have a look at Barcelona.

The film (release this summer) will serve as the documentation of all of the things that happened while we were here.

We´d like to thank the German Consulate, especiallly Mr. Thietrmar Bachmann, for the trust and for bringing us here, the Goethe Institut for putting together an awesome school progam and for taking such great care of us, to Joves Teb and all of the beautiful young people who have found a second home there (which hopefully won´t be taken away from them because of Government austerity measures) and thanks to all of the students, youths and everyone we have met while in Barcelona. You all were great fun to work with and thanks for making us feel welcome in your beautiful city................

Es ist kaum zu glauben, dass wir nun schon eine Woche in Barcelona sind und es ist kaum zu fassen, dass wir alle in etwas über 2 Tagen schon wieder weg sind :(

Und trotzdem es viel zu früh für einen Abschlussbericht ist wird es trotzdem Zeit sich schonmal bei der Adresse zu bedanken ohne die dieses ganze Projekt nicht hätte stattfinden können.

Dafür, dass du uns zum zweiten Mal nach Barcelona geholt hast, seit 2008 regelmäßig nach New York City einlädst (und demnächst auch andere Städte die hier noch nicht erwähnt werden dürfen). Dafür, dass du Völkerverständigung möglich machst, Zugänge zu jungen Menschen gewährleistest, bildest, förderst und immer da bist um jungen Menschen Selbstvertrauen zu geben. Und auch wenn du oft und immer wieder missverstanden wirst.......Ich weiß nicht wo ich wäre oder was ich ohne dich machen würde...........

It is almost too much to believe that we have been in Barcelona for one whole week and it is even harder to believe that we all will be leaving in a little over 2 days from now. :(

And though it is too early for a final report it is time to give thanks because without you this entire project would not have been possible.

For bringing us to Barcelona for the second time, for regularly bringing us to New York City since 2008 and soon other cities (which i am not yet allowed to name :). For making international relations and understanding possible. For granting access to young people, for educating, supporting and for giving young people self confidence. And though you are constantly misunderstood.......i don´t know where i would be or what i would do without you.....

The "big community show" in Ravala

Zusammen mit den Jugendlichen vom Jugendprojekt "Joves Teb" sind wir heute auf dem Pl. Folch i Torres in Ravala aufgetreten. Eine echtes Community Fest und wir hatten Riesen großen Spaß. Das Erlebniss wird nun erst verarbeitet und später mehr darüber. Nur schonmal eins vorab. Einen dicken shout out an Joves Teb und all die tollen Jugendlichen von dort. Straight up familia.......

Together with young people from the youth project "Joves Teb" we rocked a stage @ Pl. i Torres in Ravala. A community event and we had a ton of fun. The experience needs further processing, details will follow. Just one thing right now. Big ups to Joves Teb and all of "its" beautiful young people. Straight up familia....

Tour stop number 4

Heute sind wir an der INS Joan Bosca (Schule) in Barcelona. Ich brauche nicht mehr viel inhaltliches zu den Shows und Workshops zu sagen denn sie laufen von der Reihenfolge immer ziemlich gleich ab. Erst die Show für die Schülerschaft und in der Folge Workshops mit kleineren Gruppen während der Großteil der Schüler in den Unterricht zurück kehrt :(

Heute sollte man allerdings erwähnen, dass die Schüler besonders eifrig mitarbeiten. Die Tanzgruppe hat in der zur Verfügung stehenden Stunde spielend eine Choreografie einüben können und auch im Rap Workshop ist innerhalb der 60 min. ein kompletter Song entstanden.

Im Anschluss gehts zum Vorbereitungstreffen mit den Jugendlichen von Joves Teb und heute Nacht Video Dreh......Ein langer Tag, alle sind müde aber, dass muss man in kauf nehmen wenn man unbedingt Keny Arkana im Konzert erleben will, die dann mal auch gleich komplette drei Stunden die Bühne gerockt hat......

Today we went to the INS Bosca (School) in Barcelona. At this point i don´t have to report details about the shows and the workshops anymore as they are being run similarly from school to school. First the group rocks a show for the student body, followed by workshops for selected students while the others return to class :(

Today we should note that the students are participating with extra effort and energy. The dance group was able to learn an entire choreographie within the available 60 min. time slot and the students from the Rap workshop created an entire song.

After the morning concludes we are headed to a prepatory mtg with the youhs from the project "Joves Teb" and tonight we´ll have a video shoot. A long day, everyone is tired but that´s something one has to be able to deal with if one wants to experience Keny Arkana live on stage (who apparently rocked said stage for some 3 hrs last night).......

Die Tour geht weiter

Nach einem wohlverdienten freien Tag gestern (1 Mai) ging es heute mit unserer Tour weiter. So verschlug es uns diesmal an die INS Menendez Palayo in Barcelona. Die Show begann zuerst und im Anschluss führten wir auch diesmal mit mehreren Gruppen der Schüler Tanz und Rap Workshops durch. Für den Abend war eigentlich der erste Video Dreh für den ersten von insg. 2 Musik Videos eingeplant doch dann sah die Gruppe ein Plakat auf dem da stand das Keny Arkana heute in Barcelona auftritt. Kurze Zeit danach wurde der Video Dreh aus Gründen die ich hier nicht weiter ausführen möchte auf Morgen verlegt.

Die in Barcelona fliegt. Morgen wird ein voller Tag. Morgen früh geht die Tour an der INS Joan Bosca weiter. Nachmittags geht´s weiter zum Vorbereitungstreffen mit den Jugendlichen von Projekt Joves Teb hier in Barcelona mit denen wir kommenden Samstag zusammen auftreten werden. Danach dann der Video Dreh für den ersten von insg. zwei official "Barca 2013" tracks....

After a well deserved day off yesterday (May 1) it was time to resume the tour today. This time we were headed to the INS Menendez Palayo in Barcelona. The show started first and afterwards we conducted workshops with several groups of students. Initially we were planing our first video shoot for one of two Musik Videos we'd like to shoot while in town but then the group found out that keny Arkana was in town and performing tonight. A short while later the video shoot was postponed untill tomorrow for reasons i`d rather not discuss in detail right now.

The time flies in Barcelona. Tomorrow is going to be a busy day. Tomorrow morning we´ll resume the tour @ INS Joan Bosca. In the afternoon it´s on to the prepatory mtg. with local youths from the youth project Joves Teb here in Barcelona with whom we´ll be performing next Saturday night. After that finally the video shoot for one out of two official Barca tracks.........

Day off baby........

Ja, heute ist der 1 Mai. Wir haben frei. Dementsprechend und weil wir von den Anstrengungen der letzten Tage gestern Nacht doch alle erschöpft ins Bett gefallen sind haben wir die Möglichkeit genutzt um erstmal richtig auszuschlafen....Gegen Mittag sind dann alle losgezogen um, dass zu machen wozu sie Lust und Laune hatten. Einige sind nun am Strand, andere sind zur Ramblas gelaufen und haben sich Sights reingezogen. Heute Abend dann gemeinsam Essen und entweder ab nach Ravala zum ersten Video Dreh oder Bayern/Barcelona gucken, also das Gleiche machen was ca. 95 % der Bevölkerung dieser Stadt dann auch tun werden. Das nennen wir "erfolgreiche Integration" :)

Morgen geht´s mit der Tour weiter.11:45 Uhr startet die Show mit anschließendem Workshop an der INS Menendez Pelayo (Schule). Nachmittags dann Vorbereitungstreffen für die große Show @ Pl. Folch i Torres mit lokalen Jugendlichen der Jugendeinrichtung "Joves Teb"......

Yes, today is May 1. We have the day off. Thus and because of the extremely busy schedule of the last few days we took advantage of the opportunity and slept in accordingly........Around noon everyone hit the streets to do whatever they felt like doing. Some went to the beach, others took a walk to the Ramblas and took in sights...... Tonight we´ll eat and then, either shoot our first video or watch the Bayern/Barcelona game just like 95 percent of the rest of the population of this city which we´d call "successful integration" :)

Tomorrow we continue with the tour. @ 11:45 am our show with workshops in succession begins @ the INS Menendez Pelayo (School). In the afternoon we have a prepatory mtg for the big show @ Pl. Folch i Torres with local youths from the youth project "Joves Teb".....
